EDID6510: Learning & Knowledge Management Systems

This was thetenth of eleven(11) core courses i undertook in the MSc in Instructional Design and Technology. In this course we explored LMS, LCMS and CMS outlining the differences between them while making connections to my school. We had to create a timeline artifact of the three. We also created an accessibility table and further explored the concept of accessibility within a learning management system, with a focus on web standards issues, accessibility issues for inclusion and diversity of participants using the LMS. As a group we had to create a 10 minutes presentation on the importance of addressing accessibility issues in the LMS. For one of the individual assignments we had to compile a participation report, in this report we had to include three (3) of our best postings and three (3) responses to other students' postings. We were also required to show evidence that the postings elicited responses and reflections from other students and the responses built upon and incorporated multiple views from other learners to take the discussion deeper. For this course, we interfaced with several E-Learning Systems, the two that I focused on were Moodle and Canvas. In Moodle I placed all of the weekly assignments that came with our reading material. (to develop various artefacts throughout the course.) We also had to compile a report highlighting the Top Ten Resources that the University will need to give consideration to during its initial quest for an LMS and a rational for each. We also had to write a report / critical discussion of four of the key considerations for designing content within a LMS, each consideration had to be support with an artifact.

While doing the course, I found it to be one of the less taxing courses, because the most difficult and time consuming part was also the part that I enjoyed the most, ‘interfacing with the E-Learning systems’. So one can imagine my shock when I failed one component of the course resulting in the greatest disappointment of my stint in this course, because this now meant graduation would be delayed for me and I had FAILED.
