Reflection on the integration of my core interest in my Design Project

For the focus of my Design Project, I have decided to directly integrate both of my core interests by creating a Digital Gradebook for use at the Vide Bouteille Primary School.  Assessment in Primary Schools (NCCA 1993) states that schools should implement procedures both at school and classroom levels for recording and reporting assessment outcomes and that teachers need support in the implementation of assessments, and in the recording and reporting of assessment outcomes.

This Digital Gradebook is being designed to improve the school's management system.  Record management is becoming digital. Edith Cowen University (2002).

According to International Standard ISO 15489: 2001, records management is the field of management responsible for the efficient and systematic control of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records, including the processes for capturing and maintaining evidence of and information about business activities and transactions in the form of records.  Records management is an established theory and methodology for ensuring the systematic management of all records and the information they contain throughout their lifecycle. Attorney General’s Office Records Management Policy (June 2013).

The Digital Gradebook will be created using Excel and Google Sheets.  (Zach (2001) states that spreadsheet programs can be used to manage grade sheets effectively. Not only do they provide a safe and clean way of keeping grade records, they can also be used to automated complicated tasks).

A training session using various digital media will be planned to complement the new Gradebook.

The Digital Gradebook will be tested by the participants before and after the training session, this will allow for analysis of the training plan.

This Digital Gradebook will allow teachers to -manage students grades so that it adheres to the characteristics of good record keeping/management as stated by Robek, Brown & Stephens (1995)
